A Pig in Provence started out very interesting and well written then little by little it became dull and boring. I wanted to hear more about the people and the social interactions that occurred in Provence . I found that the continuing French recipes , without English translations , became tedious and uninteresting. Around the last 20% of the book I just got tired of reading it and just started turning pages . I am so thrilled this book is finished. I would only receive this book to people who are into the culinary arts, French cooking in particular. All others can pass it up and will not have missed anything special. I love these type of books and I might be slightly biased. I studied one year in France in Poitiers but have traveled through France and I love the community camaraderie she describes. In my mind I can just see these lovely picnics, get-togethers, the friendship, the people, the fresh produce markets. I have been to Provence and wrote my thesis on Jean Giono. Yes, she also provides recipes and I am no longer all that gung ho on cooking (I am kind of old now), but I remember the taste of the baguette (very special, made from special flour), covered in wonderful butter, or sopping up sauces made with the local olive oil. I have often heard that they feel the French people are sort of stuck-up, but actually once you break the barrier they are great. Participated in a choir with music for Christmas and for the rehearsal we went to St. Savin. This one woman had made onion soup for the whole group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were at least 25 people. Wonder how many onions she had to cut.
